A significant challenge facing owners of multi-unit apartment buildings with defective facade systems is how to manage disruption to the tenants and the large cost of providing alternative accommodation during remedial construction work. By significantly speeding up the construction the time by pre-fabricating facade elements, the duration tenants need to be re-housed is reduced. Williamson Ave is one example of how the use of prefabricated exterior wall panels reduced site time to only the demolition and installation component of the programme. In this case the panels were also weathertight and fire rated on landing. Using a mobile crane to lift the panels over existing buildings this methodology also solved significant site access problems.
