This project was a commission from the Ministry of Education for classrooms to replace an earthquake-prone multi-use buildings at several schools in both the North and South Islands. From initial Ministry briefing to handover of the completed classrooms to the school was typically just one month. This was only possible through great teamwork between the MoE, modular construction and design teams and the local BCA/TA. This project also clearly demonstrates the great advantages of prefabricating the majority of the building off-site in parallel to site works to minimise construction time on site. While ultimately a temporary solution, until the main blocks are rebuilt, the quality exceeds what would normally be expected of a permanent solution with a 50 year life span.
